Project
Investing in green spaces

In 2004 and 2005, the city of Montreal invested nearly 3 million
dollars in Saint-Laurent in order to revitalise Hartenstein and
Cousineau parks. This investment aimed to improve infrastructure,
services in the parks and the living conditions of the local residents.
In addition, activities were planned for residents about such subjects
as cleanliness and respect for the environment of both the parks
and the neighbourhood as a whole.
The Cardinal community garden, was born from this
project. The objectives of this community garden are to provide
a source of clean and affordable food for the participating residents,
to reinforce community ties and to encourage the residents to become
active in the neighbourhood. The students from Enfant-Soleil and
Parkdale Schools, as well as their families, are implicated in the
community garden. Up until now, many family activities have been
organised including community suppers, educational outings to Cap
Saint-Jacques and to Complexe Environnemental Saint-Michel. This
garden is also an educational center for composting and ecological
gardening.
A big thanks to everyone who contributed and participated
in this project!
